Northallerton Town 4 - 2 Sunderland RCA |
| STL Northern League Cup |
| Tuesday 16 September 2008 |
|
Town hit the goal trail tonight scoring 4 against an impressive RCA outfit. John Ryan got his first goal for the club after just 5 minutes when he hit a left foot shot past the keeper (1-0). The vistors showed their quality and hit back with two good goals, the second a thunderous 30 yard piledriver (HT 1-2).
The second half started with a formation change by Stu Dawson and Martyn Speight, moving 5 into midfield and 3 at the back which worked a treat, Carl Chillingsworth returned from injury and his quality had an immediate effect, Town were holding the ball better and setting up chances, Sean Joseph broke down the left on 5 mins and his cross come shot was met by Gabby Radu to equalise (2-2). Town looked capable of scoring everytime they went forward. On 78 mins Steve Roberts outjumped the keeper to head in (3-2). Ctredit to the visitors they came again but James Crossman at centre back was outstanding throughout along with the ever-improving Chris Walker.
Town sealed victory with a superb four man move, Chilly held the ball up, turned and fired a pass to the left wing where Sean Joseph crossed first time amd John Ryan fired home his second (FT 4-2).
Town have three difficult away games at Dunston, Whitley Bay and Tow Law in seven days, by the time these are played we will have a better idea of what lies ahead. |
