Northallerton Town 1 - 1 Shildon |
| Arngrove Northern League Division 1 |
| Wednesday 20 August 2008 |
|
| Well the first point is on the board and deservedly so after this excellent performance. Town started with real venom and dominated the early exchanges, however the visitors came back into it and Byrne & Gredziack up front were proving a handful and it was Byrne who gave Shildon the lead on 23 mins from the spot 0-1. Town once again fought back and on 36 mins consecutive shots from Clarke and the Anderson were cleared off the line, four minutes later Anderson again this time with a header over the keeper only to hit the bar and be cleared. Town were dominant at this point Newell & Walker at the back keeping things tight Clarke & Shardha chased & tackled everything .HT 0-1
The second half was fairly even but Town did not help themselves by giving away possesion cheaply and almost suffered the consequences when only a last gasp Block by Jackson saved the day. Towns never say die attitude paid off on 73 minutes , Shardha lost the ball in midfield then chased back win control again he put in Harrison Davies down the left and his left footed drive hit the back of the net 1-1. Then on 76 minutes a Shaun Clarke shot was pushed wide by the keeper, on 80 minutes
Lee Court beat the offside trap down the right rounded the keeper and hit the ball toward the empty net only for a defender to come from nowhere and clear off the line. It was Lee Court again on 88 minutes who had the ball in the net from a great header only to have the goal struck off by referee Greenwood for a foul by Jackson even though the ball was well over his and the defenders head ,a definite injustice. However the final score 1-1 did not reflect and hard working performance by Town, Clarke & Shardha in midfield caught the eye,Anderson and Davies got through amazing amounts of work and Newell looks better with each game but the Man of The Match goes to Chris Walker whose work up and down the line and his excellent defending was inspiring. |
