| Town gave a hard working display against FA Vase semi-finalists Whitley Bay. Andy Toman had 13 players unavailable for selection, however the main difference between the teams was the experienced Bay strike force of Paul Chow and Lee Kerr. Town's young strikers should aim to achieve their standards. Chow put Bay in front on eight minutes when he finished a simple chance having made space for himself. Town proved they were not about to be steamrolled as Danny Earl broke into the box and scored from 15 yards (1-1). Typical of Town's season, within minutes Lee Kerr put the visitors ahead again (1-2) but again Town came back keeping pressure on Bay and were rewarded with an equaliser before half time (2-2).
The second half saw Town match Bay all over the field, Lee Court kept the defence under pressure with his excellent ball control and Bettson again ran himself ragged for the cause. Town conceded a third goal when Chow again showed his experience when he held off a challenge from Bosco to score from 12 yards (2-3). Town battled on and had one or two chances to level, the best coming from a Harvey cross Danny Earl flicked the ball over the oncoming keeper only to see it hoofed of the line (FT 2-3). A creditable performance against one of the leagues better sides. Paul Harvey went off injured and must be doubtful for Saturday's game at Synners, with Jonny Payne in Portugal and Bosco unavailable, Andy Toman will again have selection problems. |
