| A vital three points came for Town today, especcially with Bishops and Bedlington winning. This could arguably be the best performance of the season for Northallerton, but it may have been a day to forget for the visitors. Northallerton adapted well to the what can only be described as atrocious conditions, getting in to Billinghams faces early on. They also created the early chances. Home debutant Andy Court went close, and so did the excellent Josh DeSilva. The breakthrough came in the 20th minute, Alan Harvey leaving the Billingham irregular 'keeper flapping at a 60 yard free kick. Town fans were jubilant, and it got better when Josh DeSilva tapped in after a frantic goalmouth scramble on his home debut. Billingham hadn't created much, however scored what can only be described as an absolute peach - maybe even the best goal seen at the Regency this season, as Smith fired in the top corner from 25 yards out while stood still, and it left Wolfe staring. Court could have scored just before half time but the keeper saved from Hume, and the rebound was behind him (HT 2-1) The clubhouse was upbeat at half time, and it got even better for Town when Hume scored a looping header from 12 yards, although the referee signalled a no goal, it stood. Then, one minute later Danny Earl scored the pick of the lot when he battled off two defenders and fired in fron 20 yards. The conditions worsened after this but Town could have made it more, Court, Hume and Earl all having chances to score more. Billingham scored a mere consolation 10 minutes from the end when Banks capitalised after the ball got stood in to some standing water. After this Billingham had some chances but the in form Wolfe made some excellent saves to keep the score comfortable. Everyone played well, however a special mention goes to Godwin Douglas who got 2 assists, and as we have come to expect from him, gave a battling performance in the middle of the park, and was a man of the match performance. The debutants played excellently also and Danny Earl bagged yet another goal. Northallerton are hitting form at the right time, however Andy Toman will face selection problems against Tow Law on Tuesday night and a point would be excellent. The next game at home is to Jarrow, and that falls under the category of must win. However, Town must be the most confident out of the teams at the bottom to stay up. |
