| The lads followed up a good performance on Saturday with an even better one. This vitally important game was won with no mean skill and determination. Millington, Hinton, Douglas and Green were all missing, however the performances of Paul Harvey and Jonathan Payne were excellent in defence, Steve Ashton and new signing Lee Court, a young striker who made an impressive debut up front. The conditions were wild, wet and windy as Town faced the teeth of the gale in the first half, however we need not have worried as we played with confidence and kept the ball well. Town created early chances as strikes from Ashton, Court and Earl were all beaten away but Town deservedly took the lead when the excellent Bettson robbed a home defender 25 yards from goal, carried the ball into the box and calmly slid it past the keeper (0-1). This was no more than Town deserved and went into the break ahead. The second half started with the home side putting on the pressure and they were unlucky not to draw level when a fine shot struck the bar and was cleared, Kevin Wolfe made sure that was Roofing's last clear chance. Town again dominated play the home keeper made two fantastic stops from Bettson and Court before Danny Earl struck the winner on the hour with a 29-yard grasscutter that went though a packed area into the bottom corner (1-2). Town dictated events from there on in and could have had more goals through the chances they created. This was no fluke, everyone did their bit, Stu Dixon in central midfield worked like a tiger and it was great to see 'Bosco' back in the fold. So on to West Allotment on Saturday at home, let's hope this winning streak can continue! |
