Billingham Town 4 Northallerton Town 0 |
| ANL Cup 2nd Round |
| Tuesday 27 November 2007 |
|
| Town were removed from the ANL Cup without extending the home side. For 15 minutes Town did well enough, managing to hold things together until 31 minutes when the home side scored (1-0). At this point Town's players suddenly remembered what happended in our last meeting and confidence went out of the window. Billingham scored again on 33 minutes, this after Town had the ball on the home side's 6 yard line threatening to score, yet seconds later the ball was in our net with our midfield in no-man's land (2-0). We managed to reach half time with no further mishaps. The second half saw Manager Toman make two changes Earl and Barker replaced Harmsworth and Fowler. The change made little difference as Town continued to defend like a bad pub team and conceded a third (3-0). It has to be said that the home side were running riot and looked like scoring at will, and duly made it four (FT4-0). It is difficult to understand why we get these major lapses after a good performance at the weekend, I know the manager feels the same. It is clear that we cannot match the pace and movement of a team like we played tonight and on the previous meeting. I accept the referee made some very poor decisions but this should not disguise the deficiencies that clearly exist. |
