Northallerton Town 3 Billingham Synthonia 2 |
| Arngrove Northern League Division 1 |

| Town started this game with 9 players not available due to injury, suspension and work. Synners started with Coach Barney Malone in goal when the keeper failed to turn up. Town were expected to bombard the makeshift keeper with shots and crosses, however this failed to materialise and in fact it was the visitors who took the lead on 11 minutes when Lee Flanagan converted a right wing cross from close range (0-1). Danny Earl had already missed a relative sitter for Town prior to the goal. On 33 minutes following sustained Town pressure a Jankowicz shot hit a defender for an own goal (1-1). Town's inability to hold a lead showed up again when Synner's were awarded a penalty which was converted (1-2). But we can never accuse this team of lack of effort, again they clawed it back on 45 minutes when Luke Bythway struck right on the whistle (HT 2-2). The second half started with both teams prepared to launch the ball forward ending in neither side getting any quality possession. Half chances were created at both ends, but on 55 minutes Luke Bythway broke down the right and crossed into the box, the stand-in keeper failed to collect the ball and Louis Whensley on as sub bundled the ball into the net (3-2). Could Town hang to the lead for the remaining time? It looked as though they could, until 75 minutes when a disputed second penalty was awarded to the visitors, the same player took the kick only this time Jack Norton flung himself to his right to brilliantly save the spotkick. This inspired Town to battle to the final whistle, keeping their cool as the visitors lost their's with some wild tackles resulting in a red card. An important victory and with Billingham Town on Tuesday night the lads will feel they have
something to prove.
