| Town came out of this game with a fighting draw to earn a replay on Wednesday night at The Regency Stadium, however it could have been so different. Town took an lead early on 3 minutes when Martin Barwick finished off a fine move (0-1). The sides were pretty level in terms of ability and the home side pushed on trying to pin the visitors back, Town were having none of it and held their own up to half time. The second half was a very even affair and both sides had half chances to score. However the home side however drew level on 72 minutes following a good move (1-1). Town were unlucky not go ahead on 80 minutes when a Danny Earl shot was partly blocked by a defender and the ball looped high into the air, bounced on top of the crossbar and safely behind the goal with the keeper stranded. Then on 86 minutes the defining point of the game, Town were awarded a penalty, surely this was the winner, but unfortunately Paul Hinton blazed the over the bar. Town were almost knocked out on 89 minutes when a fine move by Gate ended with Jack Norton making a fantastic point blank save to keep us in the game (FT 1-1). The late pressure from the home side gave them renewed enthusiasm and they kept Town pinned back but Town's defence with Karl Jankowicz outstanding held out until they broke the shackles and Danny Earl put us 2-1 up. Again Town's work rate was excellent, the home side then piled on the pressure, Luke Bythway was given a second yellow card for what was a poor decision by the referee and with 6 minutes left Gate got their equaliser to force the replay (FT 2-2). No disgrace from this performance and in truth Town have nothing to fear on Wednesday night. |
