| Town made one change from Saturday's line-up as Lee Bythway was unavailable, Chris Walker coming in. The game started very much in the manner that Town left off on Saturday, a strong performance from back to front. Town took the lead on 9 minutes when Anth Hume struck the ball which deflected off a defender and found the net (0-1). The home side tried to get back into it but were matched in every way by Town. In fact, Town were unlucky no to go two up on 30 minutes and only a fine save from the Spennymoor keeper keep it down to a one goal lead. Then, right on the stroke of half time, Andy Hetherington failed to do what he had done during the game and gave the winger time and space and he punished us with drive into the far bottom corner (HT 1-1). Moors came out all guns blazing and Town wilted under their early pressure. A run down the wing by Richards left Walker and Harmsworth in his wake his cross was met by Johnson who scored from close range (2-1). We were under serious pressure from 5 consecutive corners and only a miraculous save from Jack Norton kept Town in the game. However from the hour mark Town regained their composure and started to fight back, two shots being cleared off the line which could have made all the difference. In the last minute Richie Storrs held the ball on the touch line, Harmsworth made the cardinal error by allowing him to cross the ball to the unmarked full-back who made it 3-1 (FT). The scoreline does not reflect the teams performance, Hume lead the line winning masses of ball in the air, Hinton and Green battled away with Luke Bythway in the middle and the two centre backs Fairlamb and Barker marshalled the defence very well. So Billingham Town on Saturday, I feel we can take a lot from this game and get a result at Bedford Terrace. |
