| Town were beaten by a quality side it's as simple as that! Andy Toman gave a debut to new centre half Ian Fairlamb, signed from Stokesley, but he was without the experienced Lee Bytheway and Paul Hinton. Town came under immediate pressure from the kick off and the home side could have scored three in the first ten minutes but failed on each occasion, Jack Norton pulling out two magnificent saves. However, after this Town settled down and began to make their mark in the game, Anth Hume and new dad Danny Earl causing some problems. It was Danny on 17 minutes who opened the scoring after a excellent run and shot that was deflected into the net (1-0). The home side took badly to this and surged forward, their movement and passing was impressive and Town's midfield was incapable of holding the ball. The pressure finally told on 22 minutes with the equaliser (1-1). Nissan were in complete control by now and only the efforts of Fairlamb and Harmsworth in central defence kept the rampant forwards at bay, however this could not be sustained and Nissan scored again (HT 2-1). Town made two subs shortly after the restart, Hodson and Luke Bytheway came on but to no avail and Town were 3-1 down by the 71st minute. The last 15 minutes were fairly even with Town managing to gain some control of the midfield but they could not create a genuine chance (FT 3-1). Andy Toman's men were beaten by a far better side and need to raise their game substantially in and around the midfield area, on to many occasions players were not closed down and were able to cross the ball at will. Positives from the game, the new central defence pairing looked good and must take a lot of credit for not conceding more goals, Danny Earl and Hume up front worked their socks off and the ever-improving Rob Bettson could be used in midfield to better effect. |
