| Town had two new signings in today's squad, Kyle Anderson and Andy Hetherington from Nissan, Anderson making his debut. Paul Clements replaced Jack Norton in goal and James Harmsworth returned to central defence. Shildon came into the game having with two recent high- scoring wins, but that carried no weight with Town's defence. Both sides had scoring opportunities in the first half, neither team seemed capable of capitalising on them, resulting in a scoreless first half (HT 0-0). The second half followed the same pattern as the first with with the same negative result until the 55th minute when the turning point came, Paul Hinton was shown the red card for elbowing his opponent, leaving Town with ten men for the remaining 35 minutes and under severe pressure. The pressure finally told on 78 minutes when Emson for the visitors scored what proved to be the winner, it followed some poor defending by Chris Walker who failed to clear his lines, Clements saved the shot that followed and from the resulting corner Emson scored. Town battled away valiantly and should have had a penalty on 85 minutes when the referee gave the kick but outside the box and the offence was clearly inside the area (FT 0-1). Man of the match was Rob Bettson, who was drafted in to deal with the dangerous Tyson Masters, the visitors star striker with 12 goals this season, 10 of those came in two games, Bettson never gave him a sniff of a chance. New boy Anderson did well though he will need time to settle in. Preparation for Saturday's FA Vase game will start immediately and Andy Toman may change the strike force given that Hinton will get a 3-match ban for today's red card. |
