MATCH REPORT
Northallerton Town 4 Darlington RA 0
FA Vase 2nd Qualifying Round
Saturday 22 September 2007
Town won this game with relative ease against a Darlington RA side flying high in Division 2 of the ANL. Andy Toman made just one change from his starting line-up at Seaham, Dave Hill for James Harmsworth at centre-back. The visitors dominated the first ten minutes and Town did well to stay level, however Town's midfield started to take effect with Dodsworth playing his best game so far. Luke Bythway had his customary efforts on goal, but it was brother Lee that put Town into a deserved lead direct from a corner on 29 minutes (1-0). Soon after Luke had a header into the side netting when it looked easier to score. Then on 38 minutes came the goal of the season at The Regency so far this season as Lee Bythway put in Paul Hinton through the inside right channel and Hinton volleyed a superbly from 22 yards into the top of the net (Half-Time 2-0). The visitors came out with all guns blazing and could easily have got two goals back in the first five minutes but Jack Norton in the Town goal made excellent saves. Then at the other end Rob Bettson put in Craig Toman 6 yards out, with an empty goal the young midfielder hit the post and the ball was cleared. From here on in it was Town all the way as they played controlled football, on 56 minutes a superb finish by Hinton again as he lobbed the oncoming keeper from 18 yards out (3-0) and Antony Green capped a fine display with a header (Full-Time 4-0). Against Seaham, Town's midfield did not compete, but they could not be accused of this today as they battled away closing down and tackling with good distribution. Dodsworth, Toman, Wood and Bettson redeemed their reputations in style today. Town are now at home to Pontefract Colliery on October 6th in the next round.
