| Town went down to their worst defeat of the season so far with an inept first half performance. Andy Toman was without Lee Bythway, Chris Walker, Mickey Ward and Lee Lenaghan who have been the regular back four this term. Their absence showed from as early as the third minute when abysmal marking allowed the visitors a tap in from close range (0-1). Only five minutes later another piece of sloppy defending when left-back Smith was left for dead and the resulting cross was headed in unchallenged from 6 yards out (0-2). The writing was on the wall even at this early stage. Town still could not get to grips with the game, poor passing, lack of marking in vital areas and missed chances did not help the cause. On 37 minutes another soft goal made it 0-3. The Seaham strikers could not believe the ease in which they were able to score and took further advantage to make it 0-4 by half time. Town however showed more resiliance in the second period and thankfully went back to playing the ball on the floor in a much more constructive manner as opposed the kick and rush game they played on Saturday and in the first half today. The visitors were much more restricted in their goal attempts and the introduction of Kalumn Holbrook in midfield made an instant impact as his passing ability and cool head on the ball shone through. It was Holbrook who set up and scored Town's consolation goal late in the game when he beat the defender and rounded the keeper to roll the ball into the net(Final score 1-4). Andy Toman was livid at the lacklustre performances over the weekend, he told the website "Even with my back four missing their were still enough good players out there to do much better than this, it is simply unacceptable and we will be making changes." |
