West Auckland 2 Northallerton Town 1 |
| Arngrove Northern League Division 1 |
| Wednesday 22 August 2007 |

| Andy Toman made one change to his starting line up, Anthony Hume replaced Paul Hinton who was unavailable due to work. Town were in the lead as early as the 6th minute when Luke Bythway was charged down in the box, Luke stepped up to convert (0-1). Town continued to push on and Michael Chui should have scored from a free header 8 yards out on 23 mins but headed over, his second serious miss in two games. It was 26 minutes before the home side got in a effort on goal when the dangerous Ian Maddison headed wide when it was easier to score. West were not to be outdone and on 28 minutes Maddison arrived late into the box and drilled home a cross from Owen (1-1). Town tried to fight back and on 30 mins Danny Earl had a super shot from 18 yards which was well saved by the home keeper. On 39 mins a cross from the right bounced on top of the Town bar and dropped to safety (HT 1-1). The second half began as a carbon copy of the first, both teams having failed possession, but as the game went on West's experienced team started to take control and Town came under extensive presure which ended with the home side scoring the winner. Town's defence made a hash of a clearance and the resulting cross found Kev Bromley unmarked on the far post and he took full advantage (2-1). Town's performance was full of endeavour, effort, enthusiasm
and some early excitement, however we lack exactly what West Auckland had - vast NL experience. If Andy can find one or two players in this mould we will have no problem. |
