MATCH REPORT
Northallerton Town 1 Tow Law 3
Arngrove Northern League Division 1
Saturday 11 August 2007
There is always a certain predictability watching Town, we usually get knocked out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle, we usually lose to a bottom club at least once during the season, oh, and we usually lose our opening fixture. Today was no different. The Town faithful spoke before kick off about the need to sign a couple more players, this view seem to be compounded after Tow Law scored after 3 minutes, Chris Walker missed the clearance for Paul Watlin to take advantage. On 7 minutes Town were awarded a free kick, Luke Bythway scored with a low shot to the keeper’s right, 1-1. On 13 minutes Watkin scored again however the linesman flagged for offside. As the half progressed Town become more confident and had several chances just before the break to take the lead. On 50 minutes Anthony Hume went inches wide with a close range header. On 75 minutes Tow Law were awarded a corner and scored with a header, it seemed the defence had gone to sleep. On 78 minutes Daniel Earl created some neat football, turned the defence and looked odds on to score with only the Tow Law keeper to beat, however the keeper, who was outstanding, pulled off a fantastic save. Town created several chances, Luke Bythway shot from well outside the area but the keeper just tipped it over, this would have been goal of the season. Tow Law were reduced to 10 men after a serious challenge however the advantage didn’t help Town plight after Scott Thompson scored, 1-3. On 87 minutes Paul Hinton should have scored from 5 yards out but hit the shot wide. Overall an encouraging performance with some reasonable football, and with a couple of additions Town should be fine. Man of the match was Jason Newell, chosen by today’s ball sponsor Ken Lomar. Team: 1 Paul Clements, 2 Chris Walker, 3 Micky Ward, 4 Lee Bythway, 5 Jason Newell, 6 Paul Hodgson (12 Daniel Earl), 7 Godwin Douglass (Craig Toman),8 Paul Hinton, 9 Anthony Hume, 10 Luke Bythway, 11 Phil Draper, 12 Daniel Earl, 13 Kalam Holbrook, 14 Craig Toman, 15 Steve Butterworth, 16 Lee Lenaghan
