| Town crashed out of the F.A.Vase at Crook today in a game dominated by the strong wind. The second meeting in two weeks of these sides left Town scratching their heads as to how they have lost both games. Today everything was going fine we coped very well in the wind and the set up of the team was balanced with Craven coming in on the left of midfield however Butterworth was missing due to a hamsting injury. Town had an early chance as Mitchell took the ball with his back to goal only to smash his shot over the bar. Then on 16 mins Crook won a corner and probably the smallest man on the pitch came in unmarked to nod the ball home 1-0. Town responded well and were nearly on terms when again a Mitchell effort was saved by the keeper.
There was little between the two teams ,however Town were lucky not to go in at half time further behind whe the home side spurned two more good chances from crosses as Town's defence was static.HT 1-0.
The second half was dictated by Town the introduction of Steve Allison at half time certainly kept the home defence under pressure with his non stop running at them
Town had afew efforts mainly from distance which never really concerned the home keeper, but the best chance of the game fell to Town's Dave Webster as he was put free on a one on one with the keeper unfortunately he failed to convert.Town were pushing for what would have been a deserved equaliser Grant Hickman did a great job holding things at the back,Smirthwaite puushe and probed in midfield with boundless energy. However as time wore on Crook were keeping possession holding the ball in the corners and running down the clock ,yet Town were still not out of it even at this late stage a goal was always on the cards untill...Hickman back passed to Alex Kell in goal and with oceans of time he allowed himself to be put under pressure and tried to beat his man lost the ball and it was 2-0 game over.Even after that Town almost got a goal which would have been even more tragic given the nature of the homesides second goal .
Town are away at Marske Utd on Sat and Manager Mark Fanning will have at least one new face in the team and will be attempting to strengthen in other areas.
