Sunderland Nissan 6 - 1 Northallerton Town |
| STL Northern League Division 1 |
| Saturday 02 May 2009 |
|
| Northallerton ended a poor season with an awful performance at Nissan. Although the scoreline flattered Nissan, Northallerton didn't help themselves and deserved nothing from the game. The first twenty minutes of the game were like a game of chess, but neither team could find a breakthrough. Hodgson went close on two occasions for Town, and Chapman fired just over the bar from 12 yards. It was Chapman who made the break-through, who beat Clements after some good play on the right by Owens. Northallerton then came back in to the game and had plenty of chances to equalise. Hodgson went close again, along with Allison who couldn't finish after beating 3 players. Hickman also missed with a header from a corner from no more than 3 yards out. A goal for Town would havemeant a different story, but it was Nissan who went 2-0 up when Owens again beat Burke on the left hand side, and he squared back for Chapman who couldn't miss from 5 yards out. Before Town could recover from this, They were beaten again when a long ball from the Nissan 'keeper caught the Town defence standing and Hodgson beat Clements from 12 yards out. (HT 3-0) Town came out after the interval and played a bit better, and Allison got a deserved goal when he beat 2 players and beat the keeper from 10 yards out. This was as good as it got for Town though, who conceded 3 more goals in the last half an hour. Nissan then made it 4-1, and a hat-trick for Chapman, who scored a great 20 yard curler in to the top right hand corner. Nissan then made it 5-1 when Hindmarsh scored with a header from a corner. Butterworth could have restored some parity for the visitors but the keeper saved well from his glancing header. Nissan completed the rout when Owens scored a 1 v 1 with Clements. A poor end to a poor season for Town, who take home the wooden spoon for Northallerton. However, now Town can look forward to next season in the 2nd division, and hopefully win some games. Northallerton Town F.C would also like to thank all the players, management and everyone behind the scenes for their hard work this season. |
