| Town made the long journey across the Pennines to Penrith today to play a team who have only lost twice at home all season. In the first half an hour though it was Town who were the better team, even without the experienced Chillingsworth and Jackson. Newall went close with a header, and O'Riordan had a rasping 30 yard drive just inches wide of the post. However, it was Penrith who scored first on the counter attack, when the ball was squared for Jackson who couldn't miss. Town got themselves back in to the game but went in to the break 1 down. (HT 1-0) In the second half it was a completely different affair. Penrith put themselves 2 up due to a huge dose of luck when Farrington made a fantastic goal saving clearance on to the post, but the ball came out to Robinson who put it past Clements from 8 yards. After this Town heads were down and just couldn't seem to win a second ball, and quite frankly couldn't adapt to what was an awful pitch, and couldn't cope with Penrith's predictable style of play. The pitch came to Penrith's aid in wrapping the game up with 10 minutes left, when a low shot from Robinson bobbled over Clements in to the net. Town didn't look dangerous after the first goal today however, and it is beginning to look bleak unless we pick up some results very quikly. It has to be said however that Penrith played well in the second half. Nobody played really well today and it is hard to award a MOM as nobody really stood out, but it has been given to Marty as he never stopped working and his crossing and set play delievery were good. Butterworth also had a decent game and never stopped running. Town now need 6 points from the last four games to stay up which are: Bedlington (A) Bishop Auckland (H, probable relegation decider), Whitley Bay (H), and Sunderland Nissan (A). |
