Shildon 5 - 1 Northallerton Town |
| STL Northern League Division 1 |
| Wednesday 18 March 2009 |
|
Town were without Roberts and Crossman, both injured from Saturday, but their absence was made worse by Town conceding 3 goals inside the first ten minutes. After 2 mins a cross from the right left the striker with a free header six yards out (1-0). On 4 mins another cross and another free header on goal, this time stand-in keeper Frost pushed the ball out only for Town's static defence to watch the rebound headed home (2-0). On 10 mins the same story, a cross not cleared and the ball is drilled home from 18 yards (3-0). Town's three man defence was in tatters and could not cope with fast moving Shildon outfit, they conceded again with 10 minutes to go to half-time (4-0 down). Damage limitation inside 20 minutes is unacceptable, however things settled down and we started to play, Chilly put us on the score sheet with a typical finish (HT 4-1).
The second half was a mish-mash of squandered chances, Tom Burke for Town missed three good opportunities to make the score look reasonable, but it was not to be. The home side missed two sitters and also scored another header (FT 5-1).
Manager Martyn Speight must review this three at the back game as Town are being caught time and again by it. A strategic re-think must be on the cards before the next game. |
