Northallerton Town 1- 1 Seaham Red Star |
| STL Northern League Division 1 |
| Saturday 14 March 2009 |
|
This bottom of the table clash showed why both teams are in that position. There was no lack of passion or committment, however the skill factor was very low. Seaham came out of the blocks much better than Town and were unlucky not have hit the net on three occasions in the first fifteen minutes, due to poor finishing rather than good defending. Town however battled away creating the odd half chance but nothing of real quality (HT 0-0).
Town dominated second half possesion and controlled the game, Shardha was again oustanding along with Newall, Chillingsworth is relishing his role as captain leading from the front and it was his header that gave Town the lead on 75 minutes (1-0). Town had chances to increase their lead but again failed to take them. In the dying minutes Town were caught out at the back and conceded a soft equaliser (1-1).
This was three points thrown away rather than a point gained, however on the balance of chances, a draw was probably a fair result, though questions must be asked as to why Town did not go to a back four and one up front to protect the lead. |
