Northallerton Town 3 - 1 South Shields |

As much as I have complained about lack of effort this season I can't level that accusation after today's game.
The new manager and coaches have clearly made an impact, changing the system and the attitude. Though this was never a 'wine and roses' performance, we were under heavy pressure in the first 15 minutes and could have easily conceded a penalty when Campbell collided with the oncoming striker, but it was not given and Town took full advantage by taking the lead with a John Ryan header on 36 minutes and going in 1-0 in front at the break.
The second half saw Town work their socks off battling away for every ball - a refreshing change. Town went two up with a goal from Steve Roberts and with a linesman's help by not giving a blatant offside which led to Town's penalty which Chilly put away with ease (3-0). Shields got a consolation very late in the game (3-1). This was an excellent perfomance given some of our recent efforts, the team looked to have some system and method and Chilly led from the front, the captaincy seems to suit him. Hopefully this is the start of a recovery led by Martyn Speight, Steve Todd, Mark Fanning and Neil Campbell who had a good game today. |
